The Art of the Drummer was first released in 1977. Following rave reviews in the national music press after being published, the book quickly gained an impressive reputation and is used by a number of leading teachers and players throughout the world. As the success of the 'Art of the Drummer Volume One' grew, John progressed the teaching further with the release of a second book; 'The Art of the Drummer Volume Two'. At about this time he started to focus his attentions upon the specific drum techniques for the differing styles of music, which resulted in the subsequent publications of the 'Contemporary Drum Fills', 'Funky Drumming' and the 'Rock Drumming' series of tuition books. |

In order to aid the pupil further, John also released a selection of audio cassette tapes and CD's to compliment the books.
These are designed for pupils to listen to and play along with the individual tutorial exercises within each publication.
The books are still selling today, with the original 'The Art of the Drummer' now in it's 19th reprint - a testament
to the relevance of the books teaching style.
